    What a hard series Characters seem to have one crisis after another, so much so that at times I had to put the book down I wondered if it wasn t a sadistic experience to continue through, but a boo

    Still reading what a hard, hard start to a country.I found it difficult to read at times..and so wouldn t reccomend it to most people

    I love Bryce Courtenay, but the first book in this trilogy is too dark, too depressing and hopeless, too miserable to get into I really tried, but had to abandon it eventually.
